Scam Alert
At MetLife, protecting your information is a top priority. You may have seen recent news coverage of customers of financial services companies falling victim to social engineering scams. Scammers impersonate a trusted company to convince their targets into revealing or handing over sensitive information such as insurance, banking or login credentials. This scamming can happen via text, email or websites set up to look like the trusted company.
Beware if:
- Someone reaches out to you unexpectedly
- Something appears too good to be true
- You’re being pressured to pay money immediately
- You’re asked to make advance payments or pay fees
- You’re asked to make a non-traceable payment using a company like Western Union
- You’re asked about details of your financial accounts or other personal information
- You receive an unfamiliar email from a domain name that is not associated with the company, such as Gmail.com, Yahoo.com, or AOL.com
- The seller doesn’t want to provide you with full details of what they’re offering
- You receive a strange email that is poorly written and includes spelling or grammatical errors
